Bongiorno Bagels is a family-run establishment that was founded in 2017 by New York natives, John Bongiorno and his father-in-law, Ed Cancro. John's background as a graduate chef from the Culinary Institute of America, and Ed's experience cooking in firehouses in New York City as an FDNY Lieutenant, it was clear that, in addition to sharing a love for John's wife/Ed's daughter, Samantha, they both shared a passion for great food. Bringing back suitcases of bagels every time they visited New York became exhausting, so John and Ed got down to business, literally, and decided to bring the authentic New York bagel and New York-style deli to Gilbert, Arizona.
It's all in the Water
If you've ever had a New York bagel, you know that all others pale in comparison. At Bongiorno Bagels, we make sure to represent our home-state right, by using The New York Watermaker in our process. We start off by kettle-boiling the dough, and getting that perfectly balanced crispy, chewy, texture by finishing it off in our 30-year-old revolving-deck oven. It is our mission at Bongiorno Bagels to make you feel like an extension of our family. Whether you want to enjoy a cup of coffee and a bagel while reading the newspaper, or stop in for a pound of prosciutto to-go, we hope you find our shop a welcoming place to be, for any occasion, or no occasion at all. We take pride in using local produce, Boar's Head products, and making everything in-house, including bagel-sandwich staples, lox and cream cheese, and a deli-counter favorite: corned beef. We believe that the love for what we do and the commitment to our community resonates in the quality of our food and we look forward to saying "Bongiorno!" to everyone who comes through our doors.
